崇寧重寶系北宋徽宗崇寧年間鑄（公元1102年~1106年），幣質有銅、鐵、銀。 崇寧重寶為隸書銅、鐵大錢，製作多亦精好，存世較多。崇寧重寶錢文隸書，古樸方正，嚴謹莊重，法度固定。有人認為，崇寧重寶錢文也是徽宗所書，另有一說，謂其面文為蔡京所書，但史無定論。
崇寧重寶這枚貨幣，具有一定的歷史意義。這個型別的貨幣鑄造於宋微宗趙佶1082年到1135年期間，經歷了一次大規模的農民起義，相對來說是處於比較動盪的時期的。宋徽宗雖然不是一個好的政治家，但是卻是一位非常出色的藝術家。首次在貨幣中使用瘦金體的字型，是一種新的創造。與此同時，崇寧通寶的主要原料是青銅，厚度是比以往的銅錢要更厚一些的，具有一定的流通價值與意義所在。因為這樣的一種材料的改革，讓其具有一定的歷史意義，自然它的價值是不斷上漲的。
